Dress and Grooming

The district’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption, and minimize safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:

  • Clothing containing violent or offensive slogans or symbols and other suggestive or controversial designs is not allowed. Clothing containing the following are not allowed: pictures, symbols, words, or phrases suggesting any of the following: cigarettes, drugs, drug paraphernalia, KKK, Satan, murder, violence, sex, profanity, nudity, semi-nude figures, alcohol, swastikas, inappropriate comments, messages or phrases, inappropriate graphics, inappropriate language.
  • Startling, unusual, or immodest attire of any sort is not permitted. This includes fads in hairstyles, clothing or anything designed to attract attention to the individual or to disrupt the orderly conduct of the classroom or campus.
  • Clothing and other articles that are considered “gang related” are not allowed.
  • Hair should be kept neatly groomed at all times. Hairstyle, length, cut or color that is extreme or distracting may be unacceptable. Excessive styles not allowed include: tails, designs, spikes, Mohawks, puffs, etc.
    • Hair style for males: Hair should be above the eyebrows in front and should not extend over the top of the collar of a dress shirt in back. No ponytails (regardless of its placement on the head) are allowed. No facial hair is allowed.
  • Hats, scarves, bandanas, hair coverings, and sweatbands are not to be worn by students except under circumstances approved by the principal.
    Nose rings, eyebrow rings, tongue rings, or any type of body piercing is not allowed except for earrings on girls.

    • For Males: Earrings are prohibited. No other object may be worn in the earring hole.
  • Shirts must cover all parts of the midriff when sitting or standing.
    • For Males: Shirts must have sleeves
    • For Females: Shoulder straps on shirts must be at least 1 ½ inches wide (approximately the width of three adult fingers.
    • For Females: Bare midriffs, halters, or bare backs are prohibited.
  • Extremely baggy clothing will not be allowed. Pants, shorts, etc. are not to be worn below the waistline.
  • Torn, ripped, frayed, or cut clothing will not be allowed.
  • Pajama tops or bottoms will not be permitted except under circumstances approved by the principal.
  • Shorts/Skirts may be worn by students in grades K-9 with the following guidelines
    • Shorts and skirts must be fingertip length.
    • Tight fitting shorts or “short shorts” will not be allowed.
    • Cutoffs, boxer shorts, wind shorts, bike shorts, short leggings as outer garments, etc. will not be allowed
  • Students must wear appropriate shoes at all times. House shoes, beach shoes, shower shoes, slippers and the like are not considered to be appropriate. Taps, metal plates, cleats, or wheels on shoes will not be permitted.
