Technology
1:1: Term utilized by schools to describe a program where every student in a school district receives a technology device from the school. The device itself varies from school to school based on the instructional needs of the district/grade level.
AI: Artificial Intelligence - This is a rapidly growing field. It has many applications but for the purposes of this guide, it is the technology and programming that allows algorithms in social media and gaming platforms to learn more rapidly about our students and us to ensure the tools are as addictive as possible.
Algorithm - In non-technical terms, this is the programming utilized by apps and platforms to set in motion the content and experience received by end users based on the data and response the algorithm collects about the end user.
Chromebook - A laptop that runs the Chrome Operating system. These are widely used in schools due to how well they integrate with Instructional resources, their collaborative tools, and their cost-effectiveness for schools.
District-managed Device - Any hardware device provided by the district that is managed via the Google Admin console. A managed device is updated by the district and allows for seamless adding of apps as well as stronger content filtering and other protections.
Google Classroom - An online learning platform for teachers to communicate and organize assignments and classroom materials for students.

District Tools and Program
Bark - A web tool used by the district to monitor student Google Accounts for threats of suicide, self-harm, or acts of violence to ensure we respond proactively for the safety and well-being of all students.
Go Guardian - This is the program used by the district for account-based filtering and monitoring of student Google Accounts in the classroom
Go Guardian Parents - An app provided free of charge by the district that allows parents to have the same monitoring of their student’s Google Account at all times as well as setting time limits, content filters, and other restrictions outside of school hours.
RaiderConnect - The term for Sunnyvale ISD’s 1:1 program. We chose this because this program is not about infusing more technology into our student’s lives but instead creating an environment through technology that can be better managed so that our students can develop better boundaries and healthier relationships with technology and the world around them.
Rooms - The tool inside of the Sunnyvale ISD app for teacher communication to parents and students (contact Emily White for information).
