SISD had a new boss for the day on Wednesday.
Seventh grader Jeremiah (J.J.) Roberts held down the fort as the Superintendent for the day.
“My goal as the superintendent is to make people happy,” Jeremiah said.
Stepping into Superintendent Matt Kimball’s shoes as the district’s Top Raider was all part of fulfilling one of Sunnyvale PTA’s annual silent auction items from the Fall Fest during Homecoming.
The seventh grader enjoyed spending time on each campus touring classrooms, checking in on teachers and even gained insight on a couple of campus drills alongside our SROs.
“It was pretty cool to see how the elementary teachers got the five-year-olds out of the building for a fire drill,” Jeremiah said.
In addition to checking out Sunnyvale’s campuses, Jeremiah made good on his promise to “make people happy” — he stopped by his own teachers’ classrooms to get their Sonic drink order for an afternoon delivery. (He also dropped off donuts for the administration building this morning, as well!)
“Jeremiah was all about the people,” Kimball said. “He wanted to make sure everyone enjoyed being at work and at school. His personality and confidence make him a natural leader. I especially enjoyed our time in his Outdoor Education class where we practiced some archery skills.”
After getting to captain the Superintendent’s golf cart for a short “drive” in the parking lot, Jeremiah says he realizes the work of a school superintendent is very important.
“I think the superintendent’s job is to keep everyone calm and provide security for everyone.”
