SHS’ Special Olympics athletes are now being honored with the ultimate Raider mark of distinction: a letter jacket.
“This was an ask of mine in the Fall of 2023 and Dr. Graham and Mr. Kimball didn’t skip a beat to get this approved,” SISD Speech Pathologist and Special Olympics Coordinator said. “For our athletes to be supported and acknowledged is a huge victory! Seeing the kids’ faces light up when they received their jackets is a moment I will never forget. I am beyond proud of these students and SISD for supporting our Special Olympic athletes.”
This is the first year SISD’s Special Olympics athletes have had the opportunity to earn a letter jacket. Students who are juniors or seniors who participate in Special Olympics in at least two events are eligible for a jacket.
“It has been awesome to see our Special Olympics athletes acknowledged in such a way,” Director of Special Programs Kirsten Booth said. “They have received these jackets and have been honored in a way that most parents would not have previously thought they would. I’m excited to see what new heights we can reach in order to support our students.”
